ProChess Privacy Policy

ProChess is a macOS chess app developed by Misty Mountains Studio in Colorado, USA. This Privacy Policy explains how ProChess handles information when you use the app, purchase a premium subscription, visit this website, or contact customer support.

Privacy at a Glance

ProChess is designed to be private. Its core chess features work offline, although an internet connection may be needed to purchase, restore, or manage a premium subscription through the App Store. The app does not require an account and does not include advertising, tracking, or analytics. Your games, analysis, annotations, preferences, and other chess activity remain on your Mac and are not sent to Misty Mountains Studio.

Information Handled by the App

Except for StoreKit communications with Apple described below, ProChess does not transmit personal information or app-usage information to Misty Mountains Studio or third parties. In particular, the app does not collect:

• Your name, email address, or other contact information
• Gameplay content, move history, PGN or FEN data, analysis, or annotations
• App interactions, diagnostics, or analytics
• Device identifiers or location information

Information created or configured in ProChess is processed locally on your Mac. Locally stored information remains under your control and is retained on your device until you modify or remove it using the app or macOS.

Premium Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are purchased and managed through Apple’s App Store. ProChess uses Apple’s StoreKit framework to receive signed transaction and entitlement information and determine whether premium features should be available. This information is processed on your device and is not transmitted to or retained on servers operated by Misty Mountains Studio.

Misty Mountains Studio does not receive your Apple Account credentials, payment-card details, or other payment information. Apple independently processes purchases and maintains App Store transaction records according to Apple’s Privacy Policy.

You can view, change, or cancel your subscription through your Apple Account’s subscription settings.

Customer Support

If you choose to contact customer support, the support form asks for an email address and message and allows you to provide your name. Misty Mountains Studio uses this information only to understand and respond to your request, maintain necessary support history, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. It is not used for advertising or marketing and is not sold.

The support form is provided by Google Forms. Google may process form submissions and standard technical information in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. Misty Mountains Studio uses service providers only for the stated service and requires information handled on its behalf to be safeguarded consistently with this Policy and applicable law.

Support information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above. When it is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymized unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Website Hosting

This website and Privacy Policy are hosted using GitHub Pages. GitHub may process standard technical information, such as an IP address and browser request details, to deliver and secure the website in accordance with the GitHub Privacy Statement. Misty Mountains Studio does not use website analytics, advertising cookies, or tracking technologies on this website.

Sharing of Information

ProChess does not transmit app data to Misty Mountains Studio, so Misty Mountains Studio does not sell or share app data with third parties. Information you voluntarily provide for customer support is disclosed only to the service providers needed to operate the support channel, as described above, or when disclosure is required by law, necessary to protect legal rights or safety, or needed to investigate misuse.

Your Choices and Deletion Requests

You can use ProChess without creating an account or providing personal information to Misty Mountains Studio. You may choose not to submit the customer support form.

To request access to or deletion of information previously submitted to customer support, use the customer support form. Please provide enough information for Misty Mountains Studio to identify the relevant support request. There is no ProChess account or developer-held gameplay history to access or delete.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when ProChess features or privacy practices change or when needed to address legal or regulatory requirements. Material changes will be reflected on this page by updating the date above.
